Designing with stones and boulders.

Today there seems to be a type of competition in the designing and architectural planning field, particularly when it comes to applying new designs and constructions toward the conservation of energy and the use of renewable materials.

For many of us, the use of stone and rocks may seem purely a visual tool but to those in this field they have more than one function.

One of the most popular uses for stones, particularly faux stones, is for landscaping jobs. When using small and large boulders in hot climates, these faux stones can easily diminish the amount of water needed to irrigate your garden. They create a much-needed shade to reduce the evaporation rate of water in the ground.

Some companies and owners of the property use large stones and rocks to create a waterfall look but at the same time they provide a shaded area for ponds and the fish living in it. This reduced the need to add extra materials to create the shaded area therefore making faux stones and boulders a multi-purpose material.

Let’s also not leave out of the equation the smaller gravel.
Using gravel in hot areas diminishes the need for grassy areas which in turn reduces the need for water. In hot climates water is very important resource and any small idea applied to your yard will make a big difference in the long run.

Using imitation materials for the above uses is not only more affordable because of shipping costs but you can also request specific shapes to combine the normal use of a bolder with others, like a seating area. If the stones are shaped correctly it creates a really nice accent for your garden.
